Benign Tumors of the Skin
Benign tumors of the skin can be seen at birth or later on in life. They can be hereditary and can develop with peripheral factors. The frequently seen benign skin tumors are cysts that arise from fat glands (sebase cyst). Fat glands that provide the skin to become oily and prevents it to dry, these fat glands that clog up the opening parts of the skin and the fat that has been produced cannot go out so therefore it builds up and leads there to be a mass under the skin. The fat that has been produces has thick consistency and therefore has troubles coming out so it piles up which is another activity. In small glands, oil that has piled-up can be squeezed out in sterile provisions, which is a temporary treatment. When it builds up, it can be followed-up by squeezing. Treatment by injecting medicine inside the fat sac can lead to bad results. The best and active treatment type is the removal of the sac by surgery.
Skin colorations due to the sun (solar lentigo) and skin scabbing (solar keratosis) are benign changes of the skin. Treatment can be done for esthetic purposes. If there are changes such as visible redness, wounds, or bleeding on the corners, treatment is a must. Skin antennas are formed if there is a lot of accumulated keratin so there are also skin bulges. It can transform into squamous cell skin cancers (risk) so they must be surgically removed. Solar lentigo can come to existence from natural or artificial ultraviolet rays along with one or many colored lesions. It is either light brown or sunburn color. It generally doesn’t need treatment unless it is cosmetically bothersome and in that case external shaving or liquid nitrogen can be applied. Bowen’s disease has a potential risk to transform into skin cancer. It is in the form of whitish dandruff crust on the skin which is somewhat raised. The underside of the crust is irregular and red in color.
Entriplazi of Queyrat is seen in the genital area as velvet textured red plaques.
Paget’s disease is where scabbing around the nipple head and around the nipple, watering, and inflammation is seen. If the area with the lesion get harder and ulceration occurs, then it is thought of as cancer development.
Mucosal Leukoplakia (are white color lesions) in areas such as mouth, genital, and anal areas. The causes of leukoplakia formation can be from sunrays, tobacco, unhealthy dental prosthesis and teeth cavities.
Lentigo maligna are lesions, which are irregular colored that, are formed from the sun that have thinned and damaged atrophic form on the upper skin plate. It has a risk of forming into malignant.
