Skin Tumors

Benign tumors of the skin can be seen at birth or later on in life. They can be hereditary and can develop with peripheral factors. The frequently seen benign skin tumors are cysts that arise from fat glands (sebase cyst).

The cells that give the skin color and are melanocyte are types of nerve cells and they migrate towards the skin during the early months of the organ development period. If the cells are not correctly scattered at their destination point, they show accumulation in different skin layers.

There are tumors that cannot interfere with the span of life but there are also tumors that can progress and decrease the life span. The most seen and best prognosis (watching the disease) is the malignant tumor Basal Cells Cancer.

Due to the fact that the sun is more effective, malign melanoma is seen more in recent years. In 1980, it was 2.4 out of 100,000 but rose to 7.6 in 100,000 in the year 2000. Malign melanoma is more frequently seen on the skin but can also be seen inside the mouth, lip, esophagus, nasal passage, vagina, and rectum.
